Dr Sanjay Jayasinghe (MBBS, MSc, PhD)

Sanjay is a medical epidemiologist in infectious diseases at Australia’s National Center for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS). He is a medical graduate with postgraduate qualifications in community medicine and public health. He holds a conjoint academic appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney. Sanjay played a key role in supporting the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) and the Commonwealth Department of Health in developing the COVID-19 vaccination strategy and designing the national vaccine roll out. Sanjay’s team at NCIRS was responsible for supporting the prioritisation framework for COVID-19 vaccines in Australia and developing clinical guidelines for vaccine providers for Comirnaty (Pfizer, Australia) vaccine and COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca. In addition to infectious disease epidemiology, he also has extensive experience as a health services researcher in the areas of quality and safety of healthcare for the elderly, evaluation of complex system interventions, and assessment of provider and consumer perspectives of healthcare. Sanjay also worked as a clinical practitioner in Sri Lanka and Australia. Sanjay has an extensive record of publications and presentations on vaccine preventable diseases epidemiology and vaccinology.
